Windows Media Player 11 Rocks!

June 5th, 2006 Michael Klucher

Wow, with all the beta software I’ve been running on various machines, you’d think things would be pretty unstable for me but I’ve been pretty lucky so far. This is good cause I always want to give the latest stuff a try no matter what kinda problems it causes.

My latest endeavor involves the new Windows Media Player 11 and URGE. If you haven’t given them a try yet I’d highly recommend it, Windows Media Player has a sleek new interface and is really easy to use, the liberal use of Album Art is also a welcomed change. I’m also really digging the URGE music service, it has some great radio stations and plenty of music to keep me listening. I’m really thinking of picking up and iRiver Clix and getting the download service to take some tracks with me on the go. If you haven’t seen the Clix yet, Sean Alexander has a great video review/walkthrough of the device which you can see here. Overall it’s a amazing beta and I’m really happy with the feature set.

I’ll leave you with a cool tip that someone shared with me on a great feature if you sync with a device. You can actually change the bitrate that stuff gets copied over as (So you could keep your CD collection compressed at WMA Losless but lower the quality when you sync with a device). To do this connect your device and select Tools->Options then the Devices tab. Once there highlight your device and select "Advanced" there you’ll see a way to change the quality of how things are synced to the device. Cool stuff!
